Storyline: Young, urban, party-loving boy (Imran Khan) meets hyperactive social worker girl (Kareena Kapoor).
Cupid strikes. But then girl leaves the city, her life and the boy to get a bridge constructed in some obscure village. He, of course, follows her to the village and lives out the traditional boy-wins-girl-over-while-discovering-his-inner-Prakash-Jha love story.
Director: Punit Malhotra
Cast: Imran Khan, Shraddha Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor
Writers: Arshad Syed and Punit Malhotra
This is Punit’s second innings as a writer after his debut directorial. Arshad has been credited as the writer on projects such as Shaadi Ke Side Effects (dialogue; screenplay for the yet-to-release film), Hum Tum Aur Ghost (2010) and Chalo Dilli (2011).
By including songs like ‘Chingam chabake’, ‘Dhat teri ki’ and ‘Tooh’, the makers have already reserved their spot on party and sangeet playlists. Although some reviews have talked about this trend of making party songs, others have called them "rather insipid".
Controversies/stunts: Karan Johar’s productions rarely make headlines for controversies. And this one is no different. However, some baseless rumours about Saif Ali Khan being the primary choice for the film did do the rounds before being quashed.
Marketing/hype: Imran and Kareena have been touring the country promoting their movie. Director Punit has maintained a low profile.
Just when everyone thought the audience had had enough of Karan Johar’s glossy productions, Student Of The Year (2012) released and proved them all wrong. Judging by the promos, this film seems to have everything it needs to follow suit.
