The team of Ship Of Theseus (SOT, 2013), director Anand Gandhi and actor-producer Sohum Shah, along with other members associated with the film that received immense critical acclaim, are coming together for another project. They will be releasing a documentary titled Gulabi Gang, which is getting a theatrical release across the country on February 21.

Directed by Nishtha Jain, the documentary is based on Sampat Pal and her Gulabi Gang, who have also provided the inspiration for the Madhuri Dixit-starrer Gulaab Gang. This group of women vigilantes is known to take up the issues of gender violence, caste oppression and corruption in Bundelkhand. Sohum, who has taken a keen interest in the documentary, has even turned presenter for this project.

A source close to the actor-producer reveals, “Gulabi Gang will be released in 15-20 screens across the country.” The source adds that if the documentary gets a good response, the number of screens could be increased to meet the demand.

When contacted, Sohum says, “With the release of Gulabi Gang, we are working towards changing the way the Indian audiences look at documentaries. I am lending my name to this project because I have immense belief in it and I am glad to be associated with this subject that needs awareness.”
