Over the last week, we’ve had Bollywood stars wishing the readers of HT Café a Happy New Year. Most expressed their best wishes and also shared some words of wisdom on the future. But expect Amitabh Bachchan to go the extra mile, to put in the extra effort, that extra bit of thought that makes him the Bollywood superstar and the man that he is.
Here, in his very words, is his message to our readers:
“An extract (see box) from one of my Father’s works titled ‘Vasiyatnama’ or the Will .. Pertinent words for those that tread each day towards the future. Be warned then. Be worthy of the inheritance you inherit .. Be not just a national of this great country, to so inherit its worth .. Be the worth of that great inheritance, to be called a national of the country ..
May each year that you inherit, bring you closer to destroying the unkindest of all cuts, that label our Country, the Third World.
Wishing all the readers of the Hindustan Times a most prosperous and Happy New Year – a year that brings us closer to being called the First World !! Jai Hind !! (sic)”
‘Those that be my sons shall not be my
inheritors, just because they are my sons ..
Those that be my
inheritors, shall they be, my sons ..’
‘Mere bete, bete hone se mere uttaradhikari nahi honge
Jo mere uttaradhikari honge wo mere bete honge…’
