Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s latest release, Ugly, might not be breaking records at the box office, but it certainly has received its fair share of positive reviews from critics.

Apart from the direction, the performances in the film have also been appreciated. But child actor Anshikaa Shrivastava, who plays the pivotal role of the young Kali Varshney (the film revolves around her kidnapping) in the thriller, has been asked to not watch the film.

Anurag, apparently, even met Anshikaa’s parents and requested them to not allow her to watch it because of its dark narrative. "During the shooting, Anurag made sure he only kept Anshikaa in the loop about her scenes and dialogue. He did not let her get an inkling of the other characters and their stories," says a source close to the film’s production team.

Anurag believes Anshikaa is too young to be exposed to such content. The film even has an A-rating. "Her parents have obliged as they understand Anurag means well. They, too, felt that the content would not be right for her to watch at this age," adds the source.

Interestingly, Anurag withheld details of the full script not just from Anshikaa, but from other cast members too. He only divulged details to the actors that were limited to their scenes.

While Anurag couldn’t be reached, the spokesperson of the production house confirmed the news.
