Last year, avid sports fan Abhishek Bachchan invested in a football and a kabaddi team, both of which participated in domestic tournaments. In fact, his kabaddi team even won the inaugural edition of the league.
The actor, who attended all the matches of the tournament last year, now wants to ensure his presence throughout the second edition - that starts in July - as well.
"He has a packed schedule in the days to come. He needs to complete a film that also stars Rishi Kapoor and Asin, and continue shooting for the third instalment of the Hera Pheri (2000) franchise. There's also the third part of the Housefull (2010) series. Apart from this, he has brand commitments around the world," says a source close to Abhishek, adding, "He and his team have been trying to figure out how he can wrap up his work in a way that he gets to spend all his free time with the team. He doesn't want to worry about incomplete commitments while the tournament is under way."
Since the kabaddi team won the tournament last year, they aim to retain their title this time. The source adds, "Abhishek wants to be there to boost his team's morale by attend their training sessions as well as the matches."
We tried to contact Abhishek, but he was unavailable for comment.
However, his spokesperson confirmed that he is trying to complete most of his work before the tournament kicks off.
