For his upcoming project, Himmatwala, director Sajid Khan has gone out of his way to recreate the set of the song Tathiya Tathiya from the original film. And to make sure his audience relives the magic that was created by Sridevi and Jeetendra back in 1983, he has tried his best to maintain the essence of the iconic track.
The remake, which is currently on the floors, stars Ajay Devgn and south actor Tamannah. Ask Sajid if he is worried about comparisons between the two films and he says, “I want people to make comparisons because I have done justice to the original. Of course, it will be unfair to compare Ajay to Jeetendra, especially since Jeetendra’s image as a dancer was strong at that time. But Ajay also has danced like a hero.”
Sajid Khan’s sister, the film-maker Farah Khan, who has choreographed the track, worked with over 150 dancers and took over five days to shoot it. “I was not sure whether Ajay would be able to match Jeetendra’s steps, but the entire unit broke into applause after he gave his first take. He did well,” says Farah.
Ajay, meanwhile, was excited to be part of the iconic song. “It is one of the most popular numbers from the ’80s. Right from the sets to the costumes and the choreography, everything has been perfectly recreated,” says the actor.
