Even as the debate over 26/11 Mumbai terror attack conspirator David Headley’s 35-year prison sentence by a US court continues, the pre-production work for a Bollywood film on the subject is already underway. Punjabi rapper, music producer and singer Honey Singh, who was signed on to develop the background score for the film, has now been roped in to play a key character as well.
“I signed him for the music because he has an international reach. I didn’t want any melodramatic music,” says Sunil Bohra, whose company Bohra Brothers is co-producing the film with his cousin Abhishek Vyas.
At some point, it struck Sunil that Honey could also play a key character in the film. “Three intelligence officers visited the US to interrogate Headley. I felt Honey would be the best fit for one of those three roles. It’s a key part and he was willing to do it,” says Sunil. The film is based on author S Hussain Zaidi and Rahul Bhatt’s book Headley And I.
Headley has been sentenced for recceing the targets ahead of the deadly Mumbai terror attack. He even tried involving filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt’s son Rahul. The film takes a close look at the groundwork for the attacks.
Even though Honey has previously acted in a Punjabi film titled Mirza: The Untold Story (2012), he is very excited about his Hindi film debut. “I found the story interesting and I thought I should be part of it. I’m already doing the music, so the deal is twice as nice,” says Honey.
