Trust Sajid Khan to do the unthinkable. Now, the director has hit upon an idea — a first for Bollywood — to announce the third part of his successful Housefull series.
The story goes like this: During the end credits of the forthcoming Housefull 2, the makers are planning to announce their next Akshay Kumar-starrer with a special message on the lines of ‘see you in Housefull 3’.
“Yes, it’s absolutely true. Not only are we confident about Housefull 2 becoming a big box-office hit, but we are also assured that it can be a big brand and franchise for Sajid Nadiadwala (producer), Akshay (Kumar) and me,” says Khan.
According to the director, it makes perfect sense to turn Housefull into a franchise. “Although Housefull 2 is not a sequel to the first part and has nothing to do with it’s storyline, people look forward to a lot of action, fun and comedy, much like the Dhoom and Golmaal series,” he says.
Sajid, who has also directed hits like Heyy Babyy (2007) in the past, came up with the idea himself. He says, “But everyone, including Akshay, loved it. They are also very confident about the film and its appeal. Plus, I have always loved Bond films and the end credits carrying the message, ‘James Bond will return/be back’.”
And even though Khan is still busy with the editing of his film, he feels the script of Housefull 2 is miles ahead of the first film. “I’m very confident that what a big grosser like Housefull made during it’s entire run at the box office, the second film will earn within two weeks. All of us, including Akshay and Sajid Nadiadwala, feel that entertainment in its purest form can never go wrong,” he says.
Housefull 2 is a sequel to the 2010 hit and stars Akshay with Riteish Deshmukh, Asin, Zarine Khan, Jacqueline Fernandez and Shazahn Padamsee among others.
Ask Sajid if he is already thinking of Housefull 3 and he laughs: “No, not at all. First, I have to wrap up part two before starting a film with Ajay Devgn. Then, I will make another film with Sajid Nadiadwala before moving on to Housefull 3.”
