I am not in a rat race: Gauahar Khan

Gauahar Khan says she wants to stand out for her work; adds that TV shows have put her “in another league”.

She has appeared in numerous dance numbers in movies and has done several reality TV shows. With films like Rocket Singh: Salesman Of The Year (2009), Game (2011), Ishaqzaade (2012), etc., under her belt, Gauahar Khan says she isn’t looking to sign movies for the sake of it.

Gauahar Khan says she is not dating anyone right now.

“I have picked the best [offers],” says Gauahar about her career, which has been going a little slow. She adds, “I won’t lie and say that I have been getting offers left, right and centre, and that I was turning down movies. But I didn’t want to be in films where I wasn’t doing much acting. I want people to remember my character after they walk out of the theatre. I am not in a rat race. I am moving at my own pace, and I want to stand out.”

Though Gauahar has a glamorous image, she is happy that her parts in movies do not fall under that category. “I am glamorous in my personal life and in the songs I have danced for in films. But that isn’t the case with my roles. From Rocket Singh: Salesman Of The Year and Game to Ishaqzaade – I have never played a fashionable girl,” she says. For instance, Gauahar told director Habib Faisal that she should not wear any make-up for Ishaqzaade.

Gauahar believes that people have offered her roles for her acting prowess, rather than her looks. “In fact, I will be seen in a stylish avatar for the first time in my upcoming film. But, once again, my looks are not the focus in this film,” she says.

Given her popularity on TV (Gauahar won Bigg Boss 7 in 2013), she agrees that her presence on the tube helped her garner visibility.

“Today, everything I have is because of Allah and the love, appreciation, recognition and acceptance I have received. It (success) is due to the reality shows I have done, and the way I conducted myself on them. Television put me in another league.”

After her break up with actor Kushal Tandon, Gauahar has been focusing on work. Ask her about her love life, and she says, “I really want to be able to tell you that I am [dating someone]. But there is no time for that. I am happy with work currently. It’s not that I won’t be happy to have someone in my life. But I don’t want to make up stories that aren’t true. So, I am very much single,” she laughs.
