I am only bothered about what shows on screen: Anurag Basu on Ranbir-Katrina

The Jagga Jasoos filmmaker reacts to rumours of his lead stars, ex-lovers Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif not getting along on the sets of the film.

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif’s first film after their break-up, Jagga Jasoos, has been hitting headlines for their refusal to co-operate with each other on the sets. There were even reports that common friend, filmmaker Ayan Mukerji had to be called to the sets to cool down the two. But the film’s director, Anurag Basu says that he has not had any issues with the actors and shooting was smooth. “They are very professional people. There was never a problem because of them. A lot of news came in...which was funny. There was one about them not sharing a make up van. But the truth is that they were never sharing a van. No actor shares a make up van even if they are dating,” says Anurag.

About reports of cold vibes and fights between the two on sets, Anurag says that he doesn’t care even if it happened. “No one was on my set to see any cold vibes. I don’t know whether there were cold vibes or not… I am bothered about what comes on my screen. Usse pehle and baad, I am not bothered about how they are.”

In an earlier interview, Anurag had said that casting a couple is a disadvantage. Explaining the reason, he says, “If you are shooting a scene that shows someone falling in love and if the actors are already in love, then it doesn’t come out well. You have to tell them that there is nothing between you..a lot of imagination and homework needs to be done,” says Anurag, who will also be seen judging dance reality show Super Dancer on television.

Industry buzz suggests great business for the film since it reunites the hit pair that starred in Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani (2009) and Rajneeti (2010). Add to that the curiosity to see their chemistry post the split. “The audience has become very intelligent, they can sniff how well a film will do from the trailer . No amount of promotions or break-up reports can change that.”
