Last year actor Priyanka Chopra debuted as a singer with her hit single, In My City. This year, the 31-year-old debuts as a playback singer with the Hollywood animation flick, Planes. This is also the first time PeeCee lends her voice to an animated character. When asked about the experience, PeeCee says, “I’ve never done an animation film before. When the film’s makers told me how they’ll base Ishani’s (the character she lends voice to) mannerism and style on me, I got really excited. It was something new, and an amazing creative process. And, I always enjoy doing something new.” She adds, “Ishani is a tough girl, in a world of boys. She’s confident and likes to win, a lot like me.”
So, did she have to go through any voice training for the role? “I have dubbed for my roles before, so I didn’t go though any training. But it was new because I was creating this personality in a booth!,” says Priyanka, who was in the city recently to participate in the NDTV Vedanta Our Girls Our Pride initiative.
About the promo song that she sang for the film, PeeCee says, “The idea for the song was really cute. The makers wanted to do a promo where Ishani breaks into a Bollywood song. It turned out really cute and I said ‘Yeah I have to sing that!” The actor-singer is also not ruling out doing more playback singing in the future. “Planes was the first time I ever sang playback. But I could be singing in other movies too,” she says.
