Remo D’souza talks about his experience of working on A Flying Jatt, his decision to focus only on mainstream cinema, and his desire to work with Hrithik Roshan.

All his directorial projects – Faltu (2011), ABCD (2013) and ABCD 2 (2015) – so far have done well at the box office. Now, Remo D’souza is gearing up for the release of his next, A Flying Jatt. The choreographer-director talks about the superhero film, starring Tiger Shroff, the controversy it was embroiled in, and more.

How is Tiger different from any other actor you have worked with?
Tiger is like the frontbencher in school. He is quiet, studious, and does as the director says. Once the camera rolls, he is a different person. But the minute it goes off, he goes back to being reserved.

What were the challenges you faced while shooting this movie?
The film was easy to shoot. I worked with some really good actors. The only risk factor was the action, as this is my first action film. Tiger is also doing such a movie for the first time.

The Sikh community had taken offence to the use of the khanda (a religious symbol) as part of Tiger’s superhero look…
Initially, they thought that the khanda was being misrepresented. But I spoke to one of the heads of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to explain things. Later, some members of the committee watched the film, and were convinced. They only corrected a few dialogues in the script. In fact, the movie is a tribute to the community.

Do you want to only focus on making mainstream Bollywood entertainers?
My first directorial was a Bengali film. It was an intense movie. But the problem was that it didn’t release. I think people don’t want to see those kind of films. I want to make movies that the whole family can enjoy. I try to give out a simple message with every project I work on. Perhaps, later, after I make many entertainers, I might do an offbeat film.

Is it true that you want to work with Hrithik Roshan?
Yes, I would like to make either an out-and-out action or a dance film with Hrithik.
