Ex-beauty queen and debutant actor Niharika Singh is keeping her fingers crossed.
Three of her earlier films didn’t even see the light of the day, and now, her upcoming release, Miss Lovely is due to hit the screens, almost two years after premiering at the Cannes film fest.
"After winning the beauty pageant, I immediately got Bollywood offers, and even did three films, but none of them got released, so I am really really looking forward to this one,” says the 28-year-old Dehradun girl.
Niharika, who plays the role of a struggling actor in this Ashim Ahluwalia directorial, will be seen alongside actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui. "When we started shooting in 2009, and I first saw Nawaz, I was like, ‘I hope he can act!’,” says Niharika about his co-star, who has made a big name for himself now.
"He had a huge impact on me. I was the one, who learnt a lot from him. And now, I hope that I have been able to match up to his skills. The audience shouldn’t think
ki yeh kisko khada kar diya Nawaz ke saath
," says the actor, who’s also working with him in filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s next, Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa.
Miss Lovely is a film set around the sleazy-horror film industry. Ask Niharika if she was apprehensive about the skin show in the film, and she says, “This is not a regular Friday release. I mean I can’t be all covered up in a film that revolves around the sex-horror film industry, after all!"
