Sonakshi Sinha reveals how she deals with criticism and stays out of controversies; also admits the negativity around her last film.
Your last release, Son Of Sardaar (SOS), did well in spite of the legal hassles. How does it feel?
It feels great, naturally. The people who worked on it were confident about the product, but there was a lot of negativity around the time of its release. Overcoming that and doing well is fabulous. We feel relieved.
Salman says you’ve inherited your acting talent from your father.
I was kept away from films when I was really young, but yes, I have inherited some of it from my father. I enjoy my work a lot.
In Dabangg 2, the relationship between Salman and your character has evolved. What can we expect?
After a long time, you will get to see a beautiful, romantic marriage on screen. There are situations that will bring a smile to your face.
Have you learnt to take criticism about work and otherwise in your stride?
Frankly, I’ve not given the critics an opportunity to trash me. If someone has said something bad, it’s been out of personal vengeance. For instance, I refused someone an interview, so he went ahead and wrote how bad my dance was in OMG: Oh My God! I was surprised because I got messages about how good I was. So it was personal anger. As for my work, I know how much hard work and dedication I put in, so that’s all that matters. I don’t care when people write about my weight and stuff like that.
What makes you one of the most in-demand actresses in the industry?
Actress Sonakshi Sinha
I’m hardworking, dedicated and thoroughly professional. Maybe that’s what it is. Is there anyone you really want to work with?
I’m doing good work right now and I’m content. I’m in a good space.
You’ve avoided controversies and are diplomatic. Does that take effort?
Sonakshi Sinha walks the ramp for J J Vallaya
I’m straightforward: I don’t interfere in other people’s lives, don’t party or mingle much, so there’s no reason for controversy. My choice of words puts me in a very safe space. I’m always careful about what I say. Nowadays, words are very easily twisted.'I'm still remembered as Rajjo'
Sonakshi Sinha has plenty to smile about. She's had a good year at the box office, especially with her recent release, Son Of Sardaar entering the R100 crore club. Ask her about expectations from Dabangg 2 that releases soon and she says, "I have my fingers crossed. Dabangg (2010) did so well that even today, I'm remembered as Rajjo. People still want me to say dialogues from the film.
To achieve the same kind of product has been a task, but we've done our best and have managed to make a good film. Dabangg 2 has a lot more than the first one."

Malaika Arora to make appearance in Dabangg 2 item song
She danced in Munni Badnaam Hui alongside Chulbul Pandey in Dabangg (2010). And Malaika Arora-Khan’s item number went on to become a chartbuster. Now, she is back in the sequel with the song, Pandeyji Seeti Mare. Even though Malaika and her actor-director hubby Arbaaz Khan are tightlipped about it, we have learned that her presence in the film was never in doubt.
“Malaika has wrapped up her portion of the song. Arbaaz and Salman (actor Salman Khan) had always wanted to retain her in the film since Munni Badnaam Hui had become such a huge hit. They think she is their good luck charm, but she won’t be there in the entire song. However, it will surely remind audiences of Munni’s madness, colour and energy,” says an insider close to the unit. The song is being wrapped up at Mehboob Studio in Bandra. Besides Salman and Malaika, Sonakshi Sinha, who plays Chulbul’s wife in the film, is part of the number. FULL STORY
