I don’t have as much money as Ranbir: Ranveer Singh
Actor Ranveer Singh is on a high with his recent film hits. Now, if only he could also buy a football team ala his contemporary and rival Ranbir Kapoor, since Ranveer is as much a fan of the sport as his namesake. Sadly, he confesses, he can’t.
Actor Ranveer Singh is on a high with his recent film hits, a bold condom brand endorsement and his alleged affair with actor Deepika Padukone. Now, if only he could also buy a football team ala his contemporary and rival Ranbir Kapoor, since Ranveer is as much a fan of the sport as his namesake. Sadly, he confesses, he can’t.
Ranbir has invested in a football team. Do you, too, intend to invest in the game since you’re a huge football fan?
I don’t have as much money as he does (to buy a football team). I have a lot of other things to invest in.
The football World Cup begins in June. How do you plan to catch up on all the games since you’re a fan of the sport?
Well, I’ll be shooting Zoya Akhtar’s film overseas. So if she gives me time off, I’ll be able to catch a few games.
You’re probably one of the most ‘in demand’ actors right now. Has that changed anything about you as a person?
I’ve become more confident about my craft. I don’t get nervous to a point where I’ll mess up something. It used to happen a lot earlier.
You haven’t seen failure, so to say. Are you afraid that you might take it differently when it actually happens?
I don’t think it’s right to say that I haven’t seen failure. Failure is very relative. According to me, I might fail at things every day. It’s impossible to escape it. I did see a lull in my career earlier on. I mean, Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl (2011) wasn’t a disaster, but didn’t reach our level of expectation either, which for me is a failure. There are many times I feel I’ve failed. So I know about the feeling of failure. But I also understand that if I put my best foot forward and work hard, there is no reason to fear failure. You feel that you’ve done your best, but the rest of it might not be in your hands. It’s the story of the world. It’s the way the cookie crumbles.
With projects like Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani in your kitty, something else that you would like to add to your wishlist?
I’m happy with what I have, and focussing on it right now. But I do have a wishlist of who I would like to work with. I am superstitious about these things, so I can’t say who all. All I can say is that I really want to do a very good comedy. The one thing that comes to me the least is comedy and I don’t know why. It’s on top of my list.
