Internationally acclaimed Indian filmmaker Shekhar Kapur’s ambitious project Paani has been much talked about for the past few years, but production has not yet begun. According to the 66-year-old, he is not yet ready to start the film. “I just haven’t felt ready to make it,” said Kapur, adding, “I have written five drafts for the script. I might write more. For Elizabeth, I wrote 12.”
The subject of the movie has also been under wraps, with Kapur giving only some minuscule and obvious hints, like it is based on water scarcity. When asked about the same, Kapur said, “It’s a film. That’s all it is. A few years later, we will have a revolution that we can’t handle because there won’t be any water in the taps. If you think you’ll get water from the tankers, think again, because tankers will have to carry armed guards and people will get shot over water. You have no clue how close we are to that. It’s only a day away from happening. And that’s what Paani is all about,” said the filmmaker during his visit to the ongoing 12th Osian’s Cinefan Film Festival of Indian, Asian and Arab Cinema.
When asked if he has signed actor Hrithik Roshan and is planning to sign Twilight actor Kristen Stewart for the flick, as has been reported, Kapur said, “I’m not sure yet (about the lead). I really don’t know.”
I just haven’t felt ready to make it. I have written five drafts for the script. I might write more in the future.
