While he has proven his acting prowess in Hindi films time and again, Irrfan Khan is also, perhaps, India’s best-known export to the west, in recent times. The actor who is set to leave for the promotion of his upcoming Hollywood venture, Jurassic World, which has been co-produced by Steven Spielberg, has also been part of films like A Mighty Heart (2007), and The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), among others. In a chat, he talks about his upcoming projects, and more.
* What is the status of your next international film?
I will be travelling to promote the film soon. I am also in talks for another project with Spielberg.
* It is said that you are going to be part of the Marvel Universe.
There are so many rumours… I don’t want to comment on anything till I confirm anything myself. I don’t want to talk about it because if things don’t go as planned, then a lot of negativity starts to spread.
* After being part of a number of international ventures, do you think the west has finally accepted you?
Hollywood always accepted me. The reaction that my performance in Darjeeling Limited (2007) got from the critics was very special. Even the TV show, In Treatment (2013) was appreciated; this fills me with pride. I was fortunate to get all these opportunities.
* You will be sharing screen space with Amitabh Bachchan for the first time in director Shoojit Sircar’s next.
Yes, working with him was an overwhelming experience. He is very earnest and sincere, and had a great impact on everyone on the set. When I was growing up, I was drawn to cinema due to actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Marlon Brando… their performances inspired me to join films. For me, they symbolised that whatever we bring in our performances, should come from real life experiences. But Bachchan saab symbolises great personality, a larger than life persona, and an aura that you feel when you’re around him.
