Singer-composer Mika Singh, known for rendering the quirkiest numbers in Bollywood films, now plans to expand his skill set by indulging in more stage performances and trying his hand at acting. Mika will be performing for the 15th anniversary celebration of Water Kingdom on June 2.

This will be followed by his first UK performance at the Wembley Arena, London, alongside Shafqat Amanat Ali. The singer, who turns actor soon, talks about his image in the industry, his career trajectory, future plans and more.

Will you be performing a special number at Water Kingdom for the celebration?
I love the place as it’s a good getaway. I did a couple shows at Water Kingdom in the past. I will be entertaining the audience with a track from upcoming films Yamla Pagla Deewana 2 and Ramaiya Vastavaiya.

When you started off, your brother (Daler Mehndi) was at the zenith of popularity. Did that ever pressurise you on proving yourself?
Not at all. There was never a pressure, because both of us have different styles of singing. I have never used his name for my benefit. We are the only brothers in the industry who have made it big and are successful. The Mangeshkar sister’s, Lata ji and Asha ji are popular, but we are the only brothers who have gained such popularity.

Since you were a celebrity’s brother, did you have to face comparisons?
Fortunately, there were no comparisons between us ever, because both of us are very different in our style of singing. In fact many people don’t even know that I am Daler Mehndi’s brother. I never used Mehndi as my surname.

After a few years of your kick off, you were associated with several controversies that created a bad boy image of you. What’s your take on that?
I love that image of mine, since I am the only bad boy in the industry with a good heart. I think that’s the reason why people still love me. I am the highest paid singer in the industry and I also have a lot of female fan following across the world.

You are performing with Shafqat Amanat Ali at Wembley Arena later this month. Tell us about that.
It’s going to be a big concert from two great singers. I have never performed in the UK, as I mostly do concerts in the US. But after a lot of requests from my fans in the UK, I’m going to perform for them. I have performed with Shafqat in Dubai, where we sang each other’s songs. This will be a never-seen-before kind of concert.

We’ve heard that you are trying your hand in acting. Do you hope to become a full-time actor some day?
I’ll be seen in the lead role with singer Shaan in the film Balwinder Singh Famous Ho Gaya. For more than 12 years, I’ve been getting acting offers, but unfortunately, I couldn’t accept them because of my packed schedule. I have made guest appearances in films like Tanu Weds Manu (2011) and Loot (2011).
