Actor Sushant Singh Rajput has worked his way up from television to Bollywood and has his plate full with films like Shuddh Desi Romance, P.K., Detective Byomkesh Bakshi and the remake of the Great Expectations.
Asked, what drives him to be an artist, the youngster says, “I’m very boring and romantic, shy and introvert. That’s why I find performing arts so enjoyable. I get to say things which I’ve never said and to do things that I’ve never done. I think this feeling is so powerful that I want to be in this industry.”
Interestingly, the 27-year-old says the duration of his role in a film is not a matter of concern for him. “I don't choose my scripts according to the length of my role in a film. I have to like the script and have that initial attachment with the character. It doesn’t matter if I’m the hero or not, have songs or not, or if I’m there for just 20-30 minutes,” says the Kai Po Che! actor, adding, “I read and re-read the script. It should have something new to say. The whole effect of the film is much more than the sum of its parts. Then you want to be the part of it irrespective of your character.”
Talking about the difference in working in cinema and television, the former TV actor says, “The way we approach our character, build and convey it, and convince the audience is the same irrespective of the medium. There’s a slight difference in the fundamentals. But the medium doesn’t matter as long as you are working from your heart."
