Mithun Chakraborty plays a CBI officer who can be relied upon whenever the city faces problems from the underworld.

Endorsements are a big part of an actor’s income these days. However, veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, says that in his career spanning close to four decades, he has rarely thought of making money through brand promotions.

“I have only endorsed four products so far in 40 years of my career. The first was in the 90s for an electronics brand. During those days, I felt stardom is a big achievement in itself, and one shouldn’t dilute it by making money selling stardom,” says the 61-year-old multiple National Award-winning star.

Popular in the industry as Mithunda, the actor adds that the lack of something really exciting also prohibited him from endorsing stuff. “Nothing really interesting came my way, and just for the heck of earning money, I couldn’t endorse things... I have never run after money,” says Mithun, who’s currently seen grooving in the TV commercial of technology service provider GoDaddy. “I found this ad very cute and loved dancing for the commercial, and hence took it up,” he explains.

Well, dance has always been the 80s star’s pet passion. The actor had a record 110 releases in the 1980s, of which, the blockbuster, Disco Dancer, made him a star. Ask him, if in this age of remakes, he’d ever want to see a remake of Disco Dancer, and he says, “History happens only once.”

However, that doesn’t mean that he doesn’t see a good dancer-actor in Bollywood, now. “Hrithik Roshan is a brilliant dancer... he’s the best now,” says Mithun, who’s also fond of Akshay Kumar, with whom he’s delivered a bunch of hits in the recent past, including Housefull 2, OMG – Oh My God! , Khiladi 786 (2013) and Boss (2013).

The actor also recently became a member of the Rajya Sabha. So, would he want to fight polls, too, someday? “Not really. Direct politics is not my cup of tea,” he says.
