Last month, HT Café broke the news that Sonam Kapoor is set to play a politician in her yet-untitled upcoming film.
It is an adaptation of author Anuja Chauhan’s
book, Battle For Bittora, and will be produced by her father, Anil Kapoor. And now, we have come to know that it was Sonam who took the initiative to buy the rights to the novel.
"I’ve bought the rights to the book with my own money. My father will produce it, but I have spent a lot of money," says Sonam.
The novel is a love story between two up and coming politicians who, despite being in love, are contesting against each other in the elections.
Talking about how the film had faced initial hiccups, she says, "It was supposed to be made with me on two occasions in the past, but for some strange reason, that never happened. Whoever planned to make the film wanted to cast me in it, but the film never took off. So I thought, ‘As no one is making the film and it’s such a nice story, let me buy the rights.’ So now, we are making the film and it’s a lovely story," says Sonam
For the male lead in the film opposite Sonam, it will either be Imran Khan, Aditya Roy Kapur or Sidharth Malhotra, as we reported earlier.
The film will go on the floors around September-October this year, after she wraps up Arbaaz Khan’s next production and Sooraj Barjatya’s film with Salman Khan.
