Kapil Sharma who will very soon be entering Bollywood with Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon, talks about his credentials and ambitions to do serious cinema. However, his days of reigning over television are not over yet as he reveals that his dream guest on his show would be PM Narendra Modi.

The move from TV to films may be long and tedious for many, but Kapil Sharma has been lucky to have got a break so early on in his career. However, the actor says that he will not leave television for films. The 34-year-old says that people know him because of his comedy show on TV and he would not prioritise films over it. “Mujhe jo bhi mila hai TV ki wajah se mila hai. Bahut saare filmstars bhi hote honge, jinko agar aap kisi ke ghar leke jao, toh log nahi jaante honge. Mujhe bachcha, bachcha pehenchanta hai,” says Kapil, who met the winners of HT City Stars in the City contest on Tuesday.

Although he says that he is in no hurry to make a career in films, he adds that he is open to playing serious roles in films. “Maine dus-barah saal serious theatre kiya hai, Amritsar mein. Main Dilli bhi aata tha. Comedy logo ne dekha hai and woh mujhe issi roop mein dekhna chahte hain. But main serious films bhi karna chahunga,” he says.

Establishing his show on the small screen has not been easy for the actor. Talking about how he got actor Dharmendra as his first guest, Kapil says, “Kissi ko pata nahi tha kaisa show hai, toh mujhe ek aadmi yaad aaye jo kissi ko na nahi karte — Dharam paaji.

Main unke saath ek baar Canada gaya tha... Tab tak unki film aa chuki thi aur unhone sab logo ko bol diya tha ki main kyun jaun? Main unke ghar pe gaya aur bola ki yeh mera show hai and main chahta hoon ki aap aao… uss samay thodhi tabiyat bhi theek nahi thi unki, unhone apne secretary ko bola, ‘Date likh do bachche ki’.”

However, Kapil, who manages to hold his own even in front of the biggest of celebrities, says he was most nervous when Amitabh Bachchan had come to his show. “Unki team ne kaha ki dadi se bolna ki Bachchan saab ko kiss avoid kare and gaane ko mat bolna, he is not comfortable… But dadi ne kya pappi karni thi , Bachchan saab khud unko pappi kar rahe the. Tab mujhe laga har insaan ke andar ek bachcha hota hai,” he says.

And the man who makes all of us laugh says that the one who makes him laugh the most is his mother, her innocence. “Yuvraj Singh (cricketer) ka ek function tha London mein jahaan main mummy ko saath le gaya tha. Wahaan pe, Sachin sir aaye, meri mummy ke saath photo kicha ke gaye. Maine jab mummy ko kaha ki Sachin sir aaye the, toh woh mujhe poochne lag gayi, ‘kahan, kahan?’” he says.

Having had the biggest names in showbiz on board his TV show, the actor says Prime Minister Modi is on his wishlist. “Woh ek choti si jagah se uthke aaye aur itne bade desh ke pradhan mantri ban gaye. Agar woh mere show mein aaye, main unse political baatein nahi karoonga. Main unke struggle ke baare mai baat karoonga. Bade saare logon ko inspiration milegi,” he says.
