Actor Taapsee Pannu became an overnight sensation ever since she shared screen space with actor Amitabh Bachchan in the critically-acclaimed courtroom drama film Pink (September 2016) that spoke about a woman’s right to say ‘no’ to a sexual advance made against her will.
After the film became a huge success, it was specially screened for the Rajasthan Police and later was also invited for a special screening at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. Even after five months of its release, the film continues to spread the strong message of women empowerment.
On Saturday, the entire cast of Pink, including actors Taapsee Pannu, Amitabh Bachchan, Angad Bedi, Andrea Tariang along with director Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury and producer Shoojit Sircar were invited to screen the film for President Pranab Mukherjee at the President House. While each and every member of the film was thrilled with the whole experience, Taapsee was overwhelmed with the opportunity and felt blessed. In an exclusive interview with HT, Taapsee says, “It was a memorable experience and we received such a warm welcome into the residence of none other than the President of the country. It was like walking into the largest palace in the world. Soon after the screening got over, we were felicitated by the President and later, he joined us for dinner too.”
The actor still can’t believe that she got to dine in with the President and have a conversation with him too. “An
over-enthusiastic kid was jumping inside me thinking how unreal it is to have dinner sitting right next to the President. Even though he was very sweet, warm and interactive, I was very cautious that I shouldn’t violate any protocol. It was a beautiful evening well spent with dignitaries, especially the Honourable President.”

While the movie has already impressed viewers, critics and others in the film fraternity, Taapsee shares the President too lauded the film. “He conveyed that he was really impressed with the message we conveyed through the film and how we presented the entire issue.”
On what change does Taapsee wish to make or see in the society through a film such as Pink, she says, “It will surely be a special film in the history of Indian film industry. Hopefully, it helps the society look into the mirror and realise what changes need to be brought in from within. That will slowly help in bringing about the larger difference.”
