is set to make his Bollywood debut. But that doesn’t mean he will stay away from the boxing ring. In this chat, he opens up about his acting career, sports academy and more.
Was acting always on your agenda?
I have not tried to become an actor, but I knew I could act. Whenever I watched Bollywood films, I used to think that even I can perform those scenes.
Are you nervous about your Bollywood debut?
I am very confident. After the promo’s release, I’ve been getting congratulatory calls from all over the country.
How hard will it be for you to juggle your boxing and acting careers?
I am training in Patiala right now, and only focusing on getting selected for the Commonwealth and Asian Games. My focus is on my boxing career right now. I will promote the film in Mumbai only on the weekends; the film’s team has been extremely supportive.
So, what about your acting career? Would you act in a biopic on your life?
Right now, I am just training. If I get a good script and have the time, I will sign it. But it depends on my schedule. I will not compromise on my boxing career for Bollywood films. I will act in my biopic. Who better to enact my life on screen?
What’s happening with your sports school?
The Haryana government is supporting me, and I will open a boxing academy there in the next year or two. I want aspiring boxers from all over the world to join the school and get proper training.
Does it bother you when people say your focus has deviated from the ring?
People will say what they have to. They also bashed Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni after India lost in the T20 World Cup final. But that (criticism) should not be taken seriously. You win some, you lose some. That’s how sports is.
