Much has been written about and speculated in regards to director Abhishek Kapoor’s next directorial venture, the sequel to his 2008 hit Rock On!! He, however, rubbishes recent reports that he is not directing the film. The sequel is also supposed to be produced by actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar’s production house, but the director admits he hasn’t heard from them in a while.

“Why would I write a script and not direct it? I wrote it a while back and it’s exciting. But I haven’t heard from them. However, I am also busy writing the script for my next film, so I can’t think about that,” says Abhishek.
Reportedly, the director is set to work again with Sushant Singh Rajput in his next, which is an adaptation of Charles Dickens’ novel, Great Expectations, but he is still to get a producer after Ekta Kapoor declined to collaborate on the film. “I am busy scripting the film and I am not concentrating on anything else. Nothing is finalised as to when I will start the film as loads is yet be done,” says Abhishek.

Prod him on whether he is planning to start it anytime this year, and he says, “This year would be cutting it too close. I will start it early next year.” However, there is talk in the industry that the makers of Kai Po Che are working on making it the official entry to the Oscars next year. “I have no idea about it. I just hope that it’s chosen,” he says.

Incidentally, last month Farhan had tweeted, “5 years since Rock On!! released.. Lagta hai Magik ko re-unite karna hi padega.. What say? (sic).” But clearly, audiences will have to wait for some time to watch the sequel on the big screen.
