Filmmaker Abhinay Deo doesn’t make back to back films in the same genre. He recently directed an action film starring John Abraham and Sonakshi Sinha and now, Deo wants to direct a comedy film.
“It’s not how others see me as a filmmaker. It’s what I think about myself when I do something new. My whole career has been like that. I try not to repeat immediately. As a filmmaker, I want to do something challenging and new, something I haven’t done recently,” he says.
Deo, whose last comedy was Delhi Belly in 2011, loves the idea of a sequel. “I am dying to do a part two of Delhi Belly. It was a different film, and that’s why it worked. If the script is good enough for the sequel, I’d love to do it.”
Deo also says that because the film was a runaway success, he received a deluge of similar films after. “After Delhi Belly, I got almost 30-32 scripts, all comedies. But I rejected them all because there was nothing challenging in them,” he says, adding that doing different things is imperative to invent oneself. “It’s a continuous process to invent yourself. Time moves really fast. The world is changing, so if you don’t challenge yourself, you won’t last long.”
