Known for his clean image on screen, Irrfan Khan is now delving into bolder territories. So far, in all his films he has always played characters who were respectful of women. But in Anees Bazmee’s Thank You, Khan will be seen playing a casanova. The film also features Akshay Kumar, Bobby Deol, Sonam Kapoor, Suniel Shetty and Rimi Sen and has been shot in Vancouver, Toronto, Bangkok and Phuket.
Khan informs that in his film career spanning over 23 years, he has never before played a character like this. He says, “I am playing a man who doesn’t respect women at all. He takes them for granted. I have never ever done this in real or reel life but this character thinks that women are nothing beyond being a source of pleasure.”
When asked if being depicted as a ‘player’ would upset his female fans, Khan says, “My female fans are far more forgiving and know what I am doing on screen is not how I feel about women in real life.” He adds that the film is a comedy and should not be taken seriously.
Of his new found association with Bazmee, Khan says, “I have been wanting to work with him for a long time and was even offered a role in Singh is Kinng but could not do it due to date issues.”
About his director, Khan says that Bazmee is very media shy. He adds, “Anees can even get two rivals to work in the same film as people know he won’t manipulate them or give one person more footage in the film than is required for the role.”
