Neil Nitin Mukesh is no longer a part of the sequel to Tigmanshu Dhulia’s Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster. The actor, who was supposed to play a gangster in the film, has been replaced by actor Irrfan Khan.
Producer Rahul Mitra says it’s a creative decision as the story changed, demanding an older character. “When we met Neil, he was very excited about the role but we had not locked the script. Now, the character demands an older actor. We communicated this to him and we mutually decided (that he would not be in the film). I think Neil would be okay with it as it was a completely creative decision and we’d love to work with him in the future.”
Mitra says that Irrfan, whose character in the film is from a royal family, came on board easily. “The movie has been nominated for many awards and the sequel is also generating interest, so yes, he did. We are now looking for a leading lady opposite him.”
On being asked if he had been replaced in the film, Neil says, “I opted out, because the role has shaped up to be that of an older man, way older than me and I’ve tried my hands on 7 Khoon Maaf already.”
The critically acclaimed original film that released last year, starred actors Jimmy Shergill, Randeep Hooda and Mahie Gill. “Although Randeep’s character had died in the film, we’re bringing him back in the sequel in a unique way,” says Mitra.
