Aditi Rao Hydari of London Paris New York fame is set to start work in her next, Fanne Khan, opposite Irrfan Khan. The film, which will be directed by Shivam Nair will be set in Lucknow.
Though Irrfan and Aditi were part of Sudhir Mishra’s Yeh Saali Zindagi (2010), this is the first time the two will be romantically paired. Aditi says, “Irrfan is one of the best actors in the world. It’s surprising how the West realised this before us.” The film will be a romantic comedy, but it’s difficult to picture Irrfan as a romantic hero.
The pairing is fresh and unconventional. Aditi tells us, “When people think of romcoms, the first thing that comes to mind is a chocolate boy and a candy floss girl. But that’s not all that they are. Our film will have romance and comedy, but it won’t be one of your quintessential films.
Our pair is interesting because we’re two very different people.” Talking about her role, she says, “Shivam is a fabulous director and in this film, the role I play is very different from what I am otherwise.”
Aditi adds, “The previous roles that I’ve played have been more like me. But then it’s important to experiment and ever since I started working, my aim has been to do good films and work with a good team. I don’t want to be stereotyped.” So will we see Aditi lend her voice to songs in this film?
“I think it’s Krsna (Tanu Weds Manu) who’s composing the music of this film, and I really like his work. So if he asks me to sing, then I surely will,” she says.
