For over a year now, rumours about Shahid Kapoor’s younger brother, Ishaan Khattar, making his Bollywood debut have been doing the rounds. Ask Shahid if he is excited, happy or worried about his baby brother, and he says: “I am going through all the feelings put together (smiles).”
While there’s yet to be an official announcement about his debut, the rumour mill started with talk of Ishaan working in Student of the Year 2, followed by rumours that said he’d signed Iranian film-maker Majid Majidi’s next. Then, it was speculated that the 21-year-old would work in the Hindi remake of the Hollywood flick, The Fault in Our Stars (2014), with Saif Ali Khan’s daughter, Sara. It’s now being rumoured that Ishaan will star in the Hindi remake of the Marathi hit, Sairat, alongside Sridevi’s daughter, Jhanvi Kapoor.
“I have been working for 13 years. Ishaan was nine when I became an actor. He has pretty much spent his entire childhood accompanying me to my shoots or shows, so he has seen the entire process. He is fortunate to have seen all of this and grown up around it,” says Shahid.
The Haider (2014) actor adds that it took him “five to six years to just understand things”. He adds, “But I am sure there is a lot that Ishaan has seen and learnt [from me]. That’s why I feel that he will probably be really good [when he starts working].”
Tell Shahid that there’s already some excitement about Ishaan due to his lineage, and he says: “He is lucky and he should make the most of it. I am sure he will. But eventually, everyone’s journey is their own. Ishaan is really fortunate that he is being noticed and getting opportunities. He needs to do a great job, which he will,” says the actor, who will next be seen in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Rangoon and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next film, Padmavati.
