Director Ayan Mukerji’s romantic love story, Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (YJHD), has appealed to movie buffs so much that it minted R62.11 crore in the opening weekend. The film’s lead actor Deepika Padukone admits that the phenomenal opening surpassed their expectations.
The Rs 50-crore YJHD reunited Deepika with her real life ex-flame Ranbir Kapoor on screen and off the screen too and their on-screen chemistry has been quite appreciated.
Talking about the pre-release positive vibes around the movie, Deepika says, “Somewhere, we started feeling it when we were promoting last week — there was a massive buzz. It was a great feeling.”
“People today are aware of box office and how much it is going to do. We were expecting it to collect a certain figure, but the collection has surpassed our expectations. It is a feeling we can’t even explain,” she adds.
Some people had predicted a certain figure for YJHD at the box office, informs the 27-year-old, but “for it to do R19 and-a-half crore on Friday and Rs 20 plus crore on Saturday, is humongous”.
“Honestly, I never really enjoy discussing numbers. It feels great when people say that the film has opened, as that is what you want at the end of the day,” adds Deepika.
Meanwhile, the actor is also happy with critics for the ratings they gave to her film. “What is even more overwhelming is that along with the numbers you have great reviews,” she says.
