It’l be cool to have an Indian Charlie’s Angels: Anushka Sharma
Anushka Sharma wants more action-centric films to be made in India with all-female cast. She believes Charlie’s Angels or Ghostbusters could be good options.
Talking about her upcoming film Sultan where she plays a wrestler, Bollywood actor Anushka Sharma says, “Wrestling is not an action it is a sport. I hope it happens (more action films are offered to heroines). I think it will be cool to have a film like ‘Charlie’s Angels’ or ‘Ghostbusters’ with all female cast. It will be fun and interesting.”
The 28-year-old actress said she was initially not sure if she could pull off the character of a wrestler. “We have a certain perception about the way wrestlers look. I had not seen much of wrestling. I thought I was working with a disadvantage. I am playing a female wrestler and there is novelty in that,” she says.

“I researched and found out that there are different weight categories. I saw some international wrestlers who were tall and toned like me, so I was relieved,” she adds.

For her role of a wrestler from Haryana, Anushka had to undergo professional training in the sport and learn local language. “While I was training, I was finding it little awkward as while wrestling your head is under someone’s armpit or around waist. I was like how can I do it. I was a bit hesitant. When I saw myself, I realized I was not doing it properly. I think if you want to do something then you should go all out completely and be fearless,” she says.
Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Yash Raj Films, Sultan, starring Salman Khan in the lead role, releases this Eid.

She may not have any plan to try her luck in Hollywood, but the actress says she is proud of the work her contemporaries Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone are doing in the West. The 28-year-old actress, who has worked with Priyanka in Dil Dhadakne Do said, “It’s great that both Deepika and Priyanka are doing good work there. Priyanka has achieved so much, she is a known name there. I feel proud of them. There is nothing like a dream as such (doing Hollywood films). I have never planned things in life, I believe in living life or doing things to the moment. I have never planned my career here in Bollywood, so planning to do Hollywood films is a distant thing. You have to see how things come. There is no active work towards getting there (to West).”
The actress is currently working on her next production venture Phillauri. The movie also stars Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh, who recently made his Bollywood debut with Udta Punjab.
