Although actors are professional when it comes to shooting intimate scenes, there are times when awkwardness creeps in. More so when those involved share a relationship in real life. It happened in the case of Kiran Rao, who had to shoot intimate scenes featuring her husband Aamir Khan; one with Monica Dogra and another with Kriti Malhotra, for her forthcoming movie,

Dhobi Ghat.

Getting intimate

Glimpses of the two scenes were given in the film’s promos that went on air recently. In one scene, Khan is dancing closely with Dogra; while in the other, he’s caressing Malthotra’s toes. However, when queried about these scenes between her husband and the two heroines, Rao says, “They’re not really as intimate as you think, going by the promos. In fact, they’re more about an emotional connect between the characters.” She adds that the close dancing sequence has been shot out of focus. “They are not sex scenes,” she reiterates.

The director-wife was sporting when probed further about her husband’s state of mind when shooting the scenes in question.

“Aamir was in fact enthusing us, getting us all charged up before the shoot saying, ‘Let’s have more interesting scenes.’ But I said this much physical intimacy was enough to show the emotional connect of my characters,” Rao smiles.

And before one could pose any more queries, Rao asserts, “Next time, I might have more intense and intimate scenes. If the story really demands it, that is.”
