It’s on the lines of Jurassic Park: Vikram Bhatt

Vikram Bhatt will start shooting India’s first creature film in May with Bipasha Basu in the lead.

Tell us something about your next film Creature!
Hollywood has made a fortune out of what you would call a ‘creature feature’. It includes films like Jurassic Park (1993), Jaws (1975), Aliens (1986) and Anaconda (1997) among others. But in India, we have never had such a movie. So, it will be the first time that you would see creatures fighting. It’s going to be in 3D and we are also trying to go Imax with it.

But why did you choose to make a film on this concept, which is completely new to Indian viewers?
After the Raaz franchise and other films, I wanted to understand what would be my next step. Also, what will challenge me after
successfully bringing 3D to India, especially in the horror genre. Now, I want to bring in something that’s not seen by Indian
audiences. It’s an extremely ambitious film for all of us.

Will you be hiring technicians from any of the Hollywood creature flicks?
We already have a team of special effects people from Prasad Labs who are extremely competitive. They have worked on
Raaz (2002) and the much-talked-about cockroach sequences of Raaz 3 (2012). Also, we are going to get some technicians from Canada and Los Angeles. We are leaving no stone unturned.

Are you going to take ‘inspiration’ from any specific Hollywood film or series?
It’s going to be on the lines of Anaconda and Jurassic Park. The film is going to slowly reveal the creature as it goes on. So, it will
start off with the tail, face or leg before it comes out in its complete form. I can assure you of one thing — we will do a never-seen-before film.

Is Bipasha Basu going through any kind of special training to prepare for her role?
Bipasha is already a very fit girl. So when it comes to fitness, we don’t have to worry, but yes, she will undergo training for a lot of wirework and fire fighting, besides learning to fire guns, because we don’t want to see her close her eyes while shooting a creature.
