Expectations are high when you step in to play the female lead in the second edition to Bollywood’s most raunchy flick to date, Murder. But Sri Lankan actor Jacqueline Fernandes is unperturbed for two reasons — because Murder 2, she says, is about mass killings, and because she ‘respects’ Bipasha Basu and Mallika Sherawat for their daring and fearless attitude. She now hopes to achieve what they did through Jism (2003) and Murder (2004).
"The antagonist in Murder 2 (played by Prashant) has a demonic psyche, something that we believed only exists in the West," Fernandes says. Reports stated that the film was based on Nathari killings, which woke the nation up to the gore of massacre. However, Fernandes denies this. "Our film is not based on that incident, but borrows the mass killings aspect," she says.
Fernandes clarifies that Murder and Murder 2 have no connect, and that the two films follow entirely different narratives."The antagonist in Murder 2 (played by Prashant) has a demonic psyche, something that we believed only exists in the West," Fernandes says. Reports stated that the film was based on Nathari killings, which woke the nation up to the gore of massacre. However, Fernandes denies this. "Our film is not based on that incident, but borrows the mass killings aspect," she says.
She adds, "People are expecting this film to be raunchier than Murder. But Murder 2 is not a love triangle about an extramarital affair. It explores, in an unusual manner, the dark side of human nature and sexuality. My character uses her assets to make a living. But despite her glamorous work life, deep down she is troubled and longs for stability. Her relationship with Emraan (Hashmi) is complicated. Though the film portrays their troubled equation, it’s about a series of events that happen over the course of one day and night."
Fernandes admits that compared to her previous roles in Aladin (2009) and Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, or even the item song in Sajid Khan’s Housefull earlier this year, Murder 2 is a "bold" step for her. But she isn’t averse to kissing or lovemaking scenes.
Hashmi and Fernandes recently did a sensuous photo shoot for the promotion of Murder 2. The duo hit it off well, and Fernandes says she learnt a lot from Hashmi. “Emraan is an extremely professional actor, and knew when to switch on and off. While shooting in intimate poses, he’d really focus on the job. And that’s why we have such an amazing chemistry,” she adds.
