If there is one genre of films Bollywood always finds itself struggling in, it has to be when it decides to go dancing. This, even after giving us gems like Nache Mayuri and Navrang. While Disco Dancer and Aaja Nach Le too did well on the box office, they were about other themes than just dancing. In 2013, choreographer-turned-director Remo D’Souza bucked the trend and decided to do Anybody Can Dance (ABCD), an Indian version of Step Up.
Now, the same team is all set to hit the screens with ABCD 2, with Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in the lead roles. The promo presents Varun as a good dancer, but it also reminds us of some of the best male dancers of yesteryears.Jeetendra: There was a reason why he was called Jumping Jack: Bollywood then couldn't boast of another actor who could match Jeetendra's energy and enthusiasm. He wasn’t a trained dancer, but his spontaneity made him a great figure to watch on the screen. Watch this song to believe it.
Mithun Chakraborty: The man who once travelled the interiors of Bengal as a rebel made a solid impression on everyone’s mind with his first film Mrigaya. But Mithun's calling card in the industry was his dancing skills. Films like Disco dancer, Dance Dance and Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki established him as the man of all seasons. His signature dance moves are still copied by popular artists.
Jaaved Jaafrey: He has come a long way since his dancing debut in Meri Jung in 1985. Bol Baby Bol made him a household name and he went on to carve a niche for himself in the world of dancing through films such as Jawani Zindabad and Bombay Boys. His TV show Boogie Woogie was the one which started the trend of dance-based TV shows in India.
Prabhudheva: The man with no bones left everyone wondering with his dancing prowess in dubbed Hindi film Humse Hai Muqabala. It’s been 21 years since that film released, but we’re still to find a better dancer than Prabhudheva in contemporary dancing.
Govinda: He's easily the King of dancing in Bollywood. From rhythmic steps to hilarious facial expressions, he got everything correct. His pairing with Raveen Tandon was a treat to watch for dance lovers. Even today, at the age of 51, Govinda can give any younger a tough run for money in dancing.
