The hearing in the case of Bollywood actor Jiah Khan has been adjourned till January 18th and the special CBI court has also taken cognisance of the chargesheet filed by the agency. However, the court rapped the CBI for releasing the chargesheet to the media before sending it to the accused (Sooraj Pancholi) first.
“On the fateful day, Jiah Khan had left the residence of said private person (Sooraj) where she had stayed with him for two-three days. She had accused him of lying about his meeting with a common lady friend. Jiah Khan, who continuously messaged in this regard to him, had infuriated him, and he deleted her BBM account from his mobile. Later, he had received a call on his mobile from her at midnight which lasted for about 400 minutes. Meanwhile, he had also sent certain messages to Jiah which were abusive and accusatory,” the press release from the agency alleged.
According to reports, the CBI charge sheet, submitted at the sessions court in Mumbai on Wednesday, mentions in graphic detail how Sooraj extricated Jiah’s foetus as she bled. Reacting strongly to the reports, Zarina Wahab , Sooraj’s mother, has said, “Who is giving all these details? Has the CBI or the court said this? Once ‘she’ got to know that Sooraj is free from getting charged with murder, she started telling stories.”
She also lashed out at media houses saying, ““The entire charge sheet is not out yet. How dare anyone write anything about Sooraj without knowing the contents! We will take action against people giving incorrect information.”
Announcing the filing of chargesheet against Sooraj Pancholi, a CBI statement read, “It was alleged that a 3-page note seized by the state police on 10/06/2013 was written by Ms Jiah Khan, which narrated her intimate relationship, physical abuse and mental torture that she experienced at the hands of the said private person (Pancholi). The documents and the material objects of this case have been thoroughly and scientifically examined. The Board of Forensic Medicine Experts has opined that the death was suicidal in nature, which corroborated the observation and opinion of the post-mortem doctor. The forensic statement-analysis of the note written by the deceased has opined that the said note allegedly represents her mental status genuinely and the circumstances and reasons behind her suicide.”
Meanwhile, Jiah’s mother Rabia Khan expressed her unhappiness at the proceedings and said that the probe is hiding a bigger picture to the tragic incident. “There is more to this and I am sure the truth will definitely come out,” Rabia said on Friday.
Sooraj Pancholi has been booked under section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for abetment to suicide while murder has been ruled out.
Jiah Khan was found dead in her Juhu apartment in Mumbai on June 3, 2013 and Pancholi, who was allegedly her boyfriend at the time, came under the radar in the investigation.
