Actor John Abraham, who has turned producer with Vicky Donor, is taking his new role very seriously. Though he hurt his leg while shooting for filmmaker Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala a few days ago, he insisted on completing an item song overnight for Vicky Donor. In fact, he even played mentor to the film’s lead actor, Ayushmann Khurrana, and helped him master a few steps for the song — Rum Whiskey.
In the song choreographed by Bosco-Caesar, John and Ayushmann were supposed to dance together. John went about his rehearsals from 5pm to 8pm at Film City. Then, Ayushmann practiced for his part. But problems began when they started to shoot with leading lady Yami Gautam.
“For some reason, Ayushmann just couldn’t get his steps right. But instead of getting restless, John played the perfect producer and helped Ayushmann out. As a result, the shoot, which was supposed to wrap up by 1.30 am, went on till 4.30 am. This one scene needed 26 retakes,” says a unit member. “We don’t know why it took so long. Maybe Ayushmann was overwhelmed by John’s presence while doing the song.”
“Yes, John was supportive and helped boost my energy throughout the song. Although he had an injured leg, he still went on to shoot till almost 5am. He really backed me up, and acted as an inspiration. And thanks to him, I finally managed to get my steps right,” says Ayushmann. Directed by Shoojit Sircar of Yahaan (2005) fame, Vicky Donor, also starring Annu Kapoor, is likely to hit the theatres in May.
