They pulled each other’s legs and bonded like best pals in Garam Masala (2005) and Desi Boyz respectively. And now, Akshay Kumar and John Abraham are set for a real fight sequence under water and in the slush for Housefull 2.
“Yes, it’s a very extensive action sequence. We shot it over four days at multiple locations in Thailand — Krabi and Wildlife Reserve Park,” confirms director Sajid Khan.
Akshay and John will also be seen in a fight sequence inside dense forest. “But it will be a very real and rugged sequence, about three-and-a-half minute long, involving hand-to-hand fight. To keep it real, we haven’t used any computer generated images (CGI), special effects, wires or cables. They are fighting like real men,” chuckles Sajid.
In fact, Sajid goes on to add that after Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna’s famous fight sequences in Amar Akbar Anthony (1977) and Parvarish (1977), it’s the first time “audiences will watch a real, engaging fight between two male stars.”
“Also, Akshay and John have never fought in films — be it Garam Masala or Desi Boyz. So, it will be a nice change for audience too,” says the Heyy Babyy (2007) director, who has also designed all the action sequences in the film.
“After watching it, many will feel that there is an action director hidden somewhere in me,” he says laughingly, adding “But action director Nung from Thailand helped me put my action sequences on the screen.”
But in a bid to achieve perfection, admits Sajid, the action sequence became quite extensive. “Since it was spread over four days, by the third day, Akshay and John were very tired. But they never complained,” says the director, who is currently busy with the editing of the film. “Besides audiences, I too am eagerly looking forward to the final product,” said he.
A sequel to the 2010 film, Housefull 2 stars also stars Zarine Khan, Asin, Shazahn Padamsee and Riteish Deshmukh among others.
