They broke up early last year after a steady nine-year-long relationship. And although Bipasha Basu and John Abraham are believed to have moved on graciously, they still try to maintain their distance. The latest on the former lovers is that they missed meeting each other again during the shoot of Race 2.
Apparently, when Bipasha shot for her cameo in Cyprus, almost the entire cast, including Saif Ali Khan and Deepika Padukone, was present. But John was missing.
“He wasn’t even in the country at the time. Although John was very much required for the schedule, he flew in after we had wrapped up Bipasha’s cameo. We don’t know if it was a deliberate move, or it just happened by co-incidence,” says a unit member.
Bipasha, on her part, was completely unfazed when we asked her about it. “John and I aren’t meant to face each other in Race 2. I had a scene with Saif, and that’s exactly what we shot for. I don’t think John was required in Cyprus at that time. I have two scenes in the film, out of which I’ve shot one. That’s about it,” insists Bipasha.
A few weeks ago, it was reported that the two would appear in a number of scenes together in Abbas-Mustan’s Race 2, but that’s completely unfounded. After Race 2, the two are set to act in the same movie again — Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout At Wadala. But Bipasha is yet to shoot her part.
In the past too, reports of them avoiding each other have done the rounds. When John gave Karan Johar’s birthday party a miss, it was insinuated that he did so because Bipasha attended the event. Last year, rumour mills suggested that John and Bipasha, while shooting for Housefull 2 and Players respectively at Filmistan Studios, came face to face several times, but avoided talking to each other.
Bipasha has ‘old’ admirers!
Three decades after Basu Chatterjee’s classic, Shaukeen first released, actor-filmmaker Rohit Roy is set to remake the 1982 hit. And if all goes well, Bipasha Basu will replace yesteryear actor Rati Agnihotri in a role where she will be wooed by three old men.
“Yes, I have given them the nod for screenplay and the script. But everything has to fall into place contractually. I don’t confirm anything until I sign on the dotted line,” says Bipasha, adding, “When the idea was conceived, Ronit gave me a narration. Now, we have the final draft ready. It’s turned out to be really fun and contemporary.”
For the uninitiated, the original Shaukeen revolves around three old men (played by actors Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and AK Hangal) who set out to impress a young girl (Agnihotri). Mithun Chakraborty plays her boyfriend in the film.
Ask Bipasha about who herco-stars will be and she says, “They (filmmakers) have a very good wish list. So, I’m not going to tell you anything right now. The casting is yet to be finalised.”
