Hours before the film releases and a day before the reviews appear, here’s what you can expect from this week’s release(s)…
Cast: Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Boman Irani, Kangana Ranaut, Sameera Reddy and Zayed Khan
Storyline: Directed by Priyadarshan, Tezz has been made on a reported budget of Rs 40 cr. It revolves around a bomb on a London train, with Ajay Devgn and Anil Kapoor, trying to outrace each other to reach it — for conflicting reasons, of course.
Director: Priyadarshan, (last Bollywood release was Aakrosh in 2010) Aakrosh apparently received some critical acclaim, but failed to make a mark at the box-office.
Music: Sajid-Wajid, Yet another item number. However, this one featuring Mallika Sherawat has the potential to put listeners off Hindi music for a while. The album has received average reviews.
Controversies/stunts: First, Reddy’s weight loss stood testimony to Tezz’s ‘high-auctayne’ action. Then, the on-and-off inclusion of the item number Laila created some forced rivalry between the ladies. (FYI, no one’s buying.)
Marketing/hype: Devgn and Kapoor drove around an F1 circuit so they could talk about how Tezz their cars were, hoping the film’s title would make it to some headlines. Hollywood action director Peter Pedrero was roped in as the stunt coordinator.
Our assessment: According to imdb.com, the director of this movie has made 67 films since 1984. The promos of this one look no different from those that have been seen in many action-packed big-budget Bollywood flicks in the past. Moral of the story: quantity still doesn’t look like it equals quality.
For the final verdict, look out for Anupama Chopra’s review tomorrow in the Watch & Listen page of Hindustan Times’ Do! section.
