After roping in Soha Ali Khan for her adaptation of Salman Rushdie's Midnight's Children, Deepa Mehta has now finalised Gangster girl Kangana Ranaut to play the role of Emerald in the much-talked about venture, Mumbai Mirror reported.
Buzz is that Deepa had her eyes set on Kangana the moment she saw her in Anurag Basu’s Gangster.
Actress Kangana Ranaut will share screen space with the likes of Shabana Azmi, Seema Biswas and Nandita Das.
"There were second and third choices for other characters. For Emerald I only wanted Kangana," as Deepa was quoted in the tabloid.
Going by the book, Kangana will play a character married to Pakistani politician and observes their rise and fall from the fringes.
Deepa told the tabloid, "Yes, Kangna has agreed to be part of Midnight's Children. I think she's a wonderful actress, not quite like anyone else that I've worked with."
This will the first time Kangana will be working with the internationally acclaimed director.
