She was roped in for Abhishek Chaubey’s Dedh Ishqiya — the sequel to the 2010 hit Ishqiya — long before Madhuri Dixit joined the crew. But now we hear that Kangna Ranaut has opted out of the Vishal Bhardwaj production due to date issues. The reason behind the move is the Tigmanshu Dhulia-produced film Revolver Rani, for which Kangna’s dates are required around late January or early February next year.
“Tigmanshu also requires dates around the same period that Vishal does. Kangna tried hard to alter her schedule to work in both the films, but ultimately she had to choose one. She respects Vishal a lot and they mutually agreed on her not doing this film. In fact, Kangna even told him that she would be more than keen to work in one of his upcoming films,” says an insider close to the development of the project.
Dedh Ishqiya has been in the planning stages for over a year now. “Vishal was very keen to cast Kangna. Even though she has opted out now, there’s no bad blood between them. The makers are looking for a replacement because the film, in all likelihood, will go on floors around mid-next year,” adds the insider.
Although Kangna remained unavailable for a comment, Abhishek said: “Right now, I don’t want to comment on any such thing. We will announce details of the star cast in a few days.”
Sai Kabir, known for his dialogues in Rahul Dholakia’s Sanjay Dutt-starrer Lamhaa (2010), will direct Revolver Rani, for which Tabu’s name was also doing the rounds earlier. Sai had also penned the screenplay for Kismat Konnection (2008), which starred Shahid Kapoor and Vidya Balan.
