After successfully launching three debutants — Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra and Alia Bhatt — in Student Of The Year (2012), Karan Johar now plans on furthering his reputation as Bollywood’s talent-scout-in-chief. “With Dharma Productions, I’ve launched more than 11 filmmakers and now I’m starting to launch new acting talent,” says Karan, who will soon start shooting his first short film, Bombay Talkies.
Some of the directors from the Karan Johar school include Karan Malhotra (Agneepath; 2012), Punit Malhotra (I Hate Luv Storys; 2010), Ayan Mukerji (Wake Up Sid; 2009) and Siddharth Malhotra (We Are Family ; 2010). Karan is known to still mentor these artistes.
The filmmaker is equally concerned about the future projects of his newly launched actors as well. Reportedly, Varun has bagged a lead role in a non-Karan Johar film; Alia will be working in Imtiaz Ali’s next; and Sidharth is yet to sign his next. Karan has taken it upon himself to announce their next projects, even if the films are not produced by him.
“They have already been offered films, and very soon, I will announce them. It’s wonderful that they have been accepted, not only by the media, but also by the audience,” he says.
