Director Imtiaz Ali has gone to great lengths to make sure that the Kashmiri Pandit wedding in Rockstar is convincing, right down to the smallest rituals. During the recce, he asked the line producer to fix a meeting for him with a Kashmiri Pandit family.

Their house was in a small Hindu settlement in Srinagar and he visited them with his team, sat with the wife for three hours over tea, talking about Kashmiri weddings.

They then walked to the popular Kheer Bhawani temple, met the priest and watched his daughter’s wedding video for a visual understanding.

Designers Manish Malhotra and Aki Narula roamed the streets for hours for the ‘shaneel fyran’ (velvet outfit), traditional Dejhor (earrings that are a must for all married women) and the trang (the cap a girl wears at her wedding).

The food was served in trams (copper plates) and locals were invited to the banquet to offer their feedback in case things didn’t work according to plan.

The Ranbir Kapoor- Nargis Fakhri starrer releases on November 11, 2011.
