Clarifying that he’s single, Harshvardhan Kapoor says the day he is in a “serious relationship”, he will be “okay” to talk about it.

What do most Bollywood stars have in common? They are all guarded about their personal lives. But Mirzya actor Harshvardhan Kapoor, who has been linked with a couple of women in the past few months, states candidly that he doesn’t “really get affected by link-up rumours”.

Harshvardhan Kapoor says he would talk openly if he is in a “serious” relationship.

“It’s fine. Link-ups are part of actors’ lives. It’s simple: if you are an actor, people are going to be curious about your life. It happens across the world, and I think one should embrace it, as opposed to being scared of it,” he says.

Open-book policy

He says he will always be “open” about his personal life. “The day I am in a serious relationship — in three, four or five years from now — and the girl is fine with being open about it, then I will be okay talking about it,” says the actor, who believes that a relationship is a “big commitment”.

“You are responsible for yourself and the other person. You have to devote a lot of time and effort to a relationship. And if you can’t do that, there is no point in getting into one. Till that happens to me, I don’t feel any pressure to be in a relationship,” says Anil Kapoor’s son, adding that his link-ups will continue making headlines as he’s “just 25 and single too”.

“The sad thing is that even before you get to know someone, stories come out. That cuts things off [with the girl] and people get the wrong ideas (smiles),” he says.

No compromises

The actor says he won’t stop going to his favourite places in the city, just to avoid the paparazzi. “If there are photographers outside [the restaurant], that’s fine. If I like the food or cocktails at a restaurant, and I wish to take a girl out for dinner, I will do that unless the girl is uncomfortable,” he says.

Harshvardhan recounts visiting Pali Bhavan, Bandra, with a girl a few months ago. “It’s a family restaurant. I like their food. I was hanging out with a girl for the first time, and suddenly, some photographers showed up. That girl never spoke to me again (laughs). So, I can’t do anything about that. But I don’t get upset and angry,” he says.

‘Mirzya is a special film’

“The path that I have chosen for myself, as an actor, is not a conventional one. So, I don’t think anyone can expect great returns (from his debut film) immediately,” says Harshvardhan, adding, “Dad has seen the first cut of Mirzya, and he liked it. Mom (Sunita Kapoor) is yet to watch it, but I think after watching the movie’s trailers and songs, she can sense it is a special film. When you see somebody work so hard, and with a director like Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra at the helm, things can’t go that wrong. There are some beautiful moments in the film.”
