Vidya Balan’s character owns a brothel in the Hindi adaptation of film-maker Srijit Mukherji’s Bengali film, Rajkahini, and she is enjoying playing the different role. The actor, who is known to work hard to get into character, is going all out to ensure that her look is authentic. She has even suggested using vintage jewellery from her personal collection to get the look right.
A source says, “Vidya has an impressive jewellery collection. While working on the look for her character, she suggested that the stylists use her jewellery. Vidya loves ethnic saris and accessories. She has over 300 earrings and rings, and assorted vintage jewellery pieces.”
The film is being shot in Jharkhand and is set during the Partition. Vidya plays the protagonist, a fierce madam of a brothel. “The film is based in the early 19th century. So, the jewellery worked well. Clearly, getting the pieces from her collection was a good decision,” says the source.
Vidya remained unavailable for a comment.
