Despite two bruised knees, R Madhavan has decided to go ahead with the promotions of his forthcoming romantic comedy, Ashwini Chaudhary’s Jodi Breakers,
at least till it releases on February 24.
The actor hurt one knee during the shoot of 3 Idiots (2009) and another while shooting for Tamil action film, Vettai, four months ago. He says, “When I first got injured, I did not give my knee time to recuperate. I thought I was a superman and did not need physiotherapy. That was a bad decision.” He adds, “As an actor, you think you are invincible. I used to tell myself ‘Tu hero hai…’ (You are a hero). But I keep forgetting I am 40 plus and can’t abuse my body. It needs respect. Shana tha, isliye dono ghutno ki band bajee hai. (I was oversmart, so I busted both my knees).”
The problem is so critical that Maddy admits he can’t stand up, climb stairs or dance as effortlessly as he used to. “It’s a sign to stop and take care. I’m taking a sabbatical. It’s not good for an actor to walk around like an old man,” he muses, adding, “I need to give the knees complete rest for three months, undergo physiotherapy and see if I require to get a surgery.”
Maddy also admits that his wife Sarita and son Vedant are not too happy about him not taking a break immediately and addressing his ailment. He says, “I have promised them I will deal with it once these promotions are over. I have already let go of some ad films.”
