It seemed like the festive period of Christmas would pass by this year without a major clash at the box office. The Aamir Khan-starrer Dhoom:3 was the only film scheduled to hit theatres around that time.
But now, apparently, animation film Mahabharat, which has stars like Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgn, Anil Kapoor, Vidya Balan and Jackie Shroff lending their appearances and voices to mythological heroes, will hit theatres on the same day (December 20).
Though the film is not expected to challenge the third instalment of the Dhoom franchise, the special effects in the project could entice family audiences.
"Both the films are big in their respective genres. Dhoom:3 has a lot of buzz and is expected to do well," says a trade source. The film became one of the most anticipated projects of the year ever since Aamir was roped in as the lead. It will also have Katrina Kaif paired opposite the actor for the first time.
The film, which is high on action sequences, is expected to get the lion’s share of screens across theatres. However, the makers of the animation film claim that it won’t deter them from releasing at the same time. “We have seen the trailer of Dhoom:3 and we are aware it will be a big film. But, there will be no clash as both films belong to different genres,” says Jayantilal Gada, producer of Mahabharat.
