Mahesh Bhatt: How can I make an Arth, Saaransh and Daddy again and again?
Filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt says there is no scarcity of good filmmakers in Bollywood, but not everyone is capable of delivering successful films throughout one’s career.
National award-winning filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt is known for making films that strike a chord with the audience. However, he feels that a filmmaker can’t be expected to deliver only outstanding films throughout his career.
“I think, Bollywood has some very passionate people who have intense and engaging ideas. Some make movies to just keep the pot boiling, and some weave stories to spread magic through cinema. But not everyone, all through his career, can create a film from his inner fabric of talent. How can a Mahesh Bhatt make an Arth (1982) Saaransh (1984) and Daddy (198) again and again?” says Bhatt, who has also directed films such as Sadak (1991), Zakhm (1998) and Hum Hai Rai Pyaar Ke (1993).
The 68-year-old filmmaker adds, “A filmmaker has only a limited number of films, which are evergreen. He may have the craft but not all movies will endure the desert of time. There are innumerable films I made, but not like these movies ( Arth, Saaransh, Daddy), which were very sound, intense and rooted in life.”
